College Class Schedule Creator: A Comprehensive Guide

As a college student at Cal Poly, creating a schedule that meets your academic requirements can be overwhelming without the right tools and guidance. The College Class Schedule Creator is designed to help you navigate the complex course catalog and find the perfect combination of classes that fit your needs.

To get started, visit the My Academics tab on your student portal and click on the 'Catalog' link. This will take you to a list of all available courses, including General Education (GE) courses. If you need to quickly view all courses that fulfill a specific GE Area, use the Class Search tool to generate this information.

The Schedule Builder feature allows you to filter your search by various criteria, including Section Filters, Modality of Instruction, and Class Status. The six modalities of instruction available at Cal Poly are:

1. Synchronous: fully online with established meeting times

2. Asynchronous: fully online with no established meeting times

3. Sync/Async Hybrid: a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning

4. In Person: traditional classroom setting

5. In Person/Sync Hybrid: a combination of in-person and synchronous learning

6. In Person/Async Hybrid: a combination of in-person and asynchronous learning

To view all course offerings, including classes that are closed, full, or have formed a waitlist, uncheck both Class Status filter options (open and wait list). Schedule Builder will automatically include only open courses when searching for courses.

Additionally, you can set Unavailable Time as a Filter to search for courses that fit your schedule. To access the filters, select 'Expand Filters' in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
